Vaccines are an important part of public health, working to save lives by preventing disease. Most of the time, vaccines are administered without any serious problems. As with any medication, however, there is a risk of side effects, ranging from mild to serious.
The National Vaccine Injury Compensation Program (NVICP) allows those who suffer from injuries from vaccines to apply for compensation for their suffering.
With the implementation of the NVICP, both vaccine manufacturers and private individuals are considered. The Program promotes public health interests while remaining prepared for negative outcomes in individual cases.
Anyone can file a claim in the NVICP, regardless of age or citizenship status, as long as the effects of the injury (1) lasted for more than 6 months after the vaccination, (2) resulted in inpatient hospitalization and surgical intervention, or (3) resulted in death.
Because this is a legal process, most petitioners retain an attorney to assist them. Shawmut Law is one of the nation’s leading vaccine injury law firms, representing clients in all 50 states. We have helped hundreds of people injured by vaccinations receive compensation through the NVICP.
Since 2012, the U.S. Court of Federal Claims has awarded over $3 billion dollars to those who have been injured from the vaccines covered in the Program. These funds have offset the cost of medical bills, lost wages, and other daily challenges that arise after suffering an injury from vaccination.
